By Air

The nearest airport to the The Kyle of Sutherland is Inverness. It is a 45 minute drive from the airport.

British Airways, EasyJet and Flybe fly to Inverness from various British destinations.

Car hire is available at the airport and in Inverness.


By Train

Take the North line from Inverness to reach the Kyle of Sutherland.

Trains run from Inverness to stations in the Kyle of Sutherland: Ardgay, Culrain and Invershin.

Trains arrive in Inverness from:

Kyle of Lochalsh, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow.


The Caledonian Sleeper from London is a great way of reaching the Highlands overnight.


By Car

Follow the A9 North of Inverness. You have a choice of routes to the Kyle of Sutherland:
Turn slight left at Skiach onto the B9176 then onto the A836 or continue on the A9 until the roundabout at the Dornoch Firth bridge is reached. Turning left onto the A836 before
the bridge will bring you to Ardgay while turning left at Clashmore on the North side of the
bridge onto the A949 will bring you to Bonar Bridge.

By Bus

There are intercity services to Inverness. From Inverness local services can bring you to the Kyle of Sutherland.






By Bicycle

National Cycle Route 1 brings you into the heart of the Kyle of Sutherland at Ardgay.



The Cape Wrath Trail passes through the west end of the Kyle of Sutherland area. Leaving the route at Duag Bridge it is possible to walk to Croick and then to Ardgay.

The limits of the operating area will be:

A836 (north) at a point 4 miles north of Lairg.

A836 (south) at Easter Fearn.

A949 at Spinningdale.

Strathcarron Road as far as Croick.

A839 (east) at summit between Lairg and Strath Fleet.

A837 at Oykel Bridge.

Culrain and Brae Dounie

A838 at West Shinness.

All public roads branching off these roads, for a distance of up to 3 miles. Passengers may also be carried between this area and Dornoch or between this area and the Lawson Memorial Hospital, Golspie, but these journeys must be booked at least 24 hours in advance.

The hours of operation will be 0900 - 1230 and 1315 - 1500.

How do I book ?

Phone the operator at any time up to 1800 on the day before travel (in some cases, later bookings may be possible). You will need to state when you want to travel, where you are going to and from, and give a contact phone number if possible. If you have a fixed appointment you can book this service many weeks in advance of date of travel.

This bus has a wheelchair lift. Please let the bus company know when booking if you require this.

TuOperates every Tuesday apart from Christmas and New Year weeks.

The minibus has a wheelchair lift which will be available as part of the service. Additional time has been added to the timetable to accommodate for this but, as it takes up to 10 minutes for the lift to load or unload a passenger there may be subsequent delays of up to 10 minutes along the route.

The service will divert on request to pick up pre-booked passengers up to a mile from the route. These journeys must be booked by 1400 on the previous working day, i.e by 1400 on Monday for journeys on Tuesday.
